TANJUNG MALIM, March 29 ― Gas Malaysia Bhd will allocate RM120 million to implement the gas pipeline network project in Perak, said Minister of International Trade and Industry II, Datuk Seri Ong Ka Chuan.

Ong said Gas Malaysia had agreed to pay two-thirds of the project's overall cost of RM180 million.

“Basically, our understanding is that the cost will be split evenly among the Perak state government, Gas Malaysia and the industrial sector,” he said.

Ong told this to reporters after witnessing the memorandum of understanding signing ceremony between the motorsport industry and Universiti Teknologi Malaysia to recognise Politeknik Sultan Azlan Shah's Centre of Technology.

Perak Mentri Besar, Datuk Seri Dr Zambry Abd Kadir, wanted Gas Malaysia's proposed 140km gas pipeline network project to support the industrial sector in Perak to be expedited.

He said the network, from Ayer Tawar to the Kinta Valley, would spur industrial growth in the state.

Ong hoped the Perak state government would bear some of the cost to make the piped gas supply available in this state.

“I have made a specific suggestion to the Perak Menteri Besar that the state government should bear some of the overall cost. Nevertheless, I will try to get the remaining allocation from the Federal Government.

“This project will be greatly benefit to the state government,” he said. ― Bernama
