KUALA LUMPUR, March 28 — Umno’s supreme council will be discussing appropriate action against dissenters Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin and Datuk Seri Mukhriz Mahathir at its next meeting, the ruling party’s vice-president Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi confirmed today.
Ahmad Zahid who is also deputy prime minister said the discussion would centre on the duo’s latest act of rebellion as seen in their participation in a gathering yesterday criticising the current leadership of Umno president and Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak.
“We will discuss in our next and upcoming Supreme Council meeting,” Ahmad Zahid told Malay Mail Online when met at the Parliament building here.
Previously, Umno secretary-general Datuk Seri Tengku Adnan Tengku Mansor said the party would take disciplinary action and may even expel any member who attended the gathering planned by the Save Malaysia movement.
The movement frontlined by former prime minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad together with opposition leaders and civil society members seeks the resignation of Najib.
Muhyiddin was suspended as Umno deputy president and Mukhriz lost his position as Kedah mentri besar recently.
Both were among the speakers at yesterday’s closed-door gathering dubbed the People’s Congress in Shah Alam, Selangor.
