CHERAS, March 26 ― Inspector-General of Police Tan Sri Khalid Abu Bakar asserted today his men have always been professional and will not act differently while investigating corruption allegations against DAP leader Lim Guan Eng.

Khalid added that the police have its standard operating procedures (SOP) and have to take action whenever police reports are made.

“We have always been professional. There is not one instance when we have not been professional.

“We will investigate according to the SOP after we receive reports. You have to ask, when a police report is made, what is the next action?” He told reporters in response to Lim’s remarks earlier regarding police investigations into his RM2.8 million house purchase last year.

Lim, who is also Penang chief minister, has been accused of using his position to buy the double-storey standalone house in the land-strapped island state, with claims the property was undervalued when he made the purchase.

He had repeatedly denied the allegations.

Khalid told reporters yesterday that the police are investigating a statutory declaration made Tuesday by Phang Li Koon, the former Jalan Pinhorn house owner.

Lim said earlier today he will gladly cooperate with the police in its investigation but questioned the “unusually quick response” of police just 48 hours after political rivals from Umno Youth lodged a report over the matter.

He also questioned if he and Phang will be investigated “fairly, impartially and professionally”.
