PUTRAJAYA, March 23 — Seven security guards were arrested in an operation code-named “Op ID” last night, on suspicion of using fake identity cards to work in Cyberjaya.

In the operation mounted by the National Registration Department (NRD), Putrajaya from 10.30 pm at MCMC Tower 1 & 2 in Cyberjaya, the seven aged between 30 and 40 years were caught while on duty at the premises there.

The NRD in a statement today said, when questioned the security guards claimed they were from Sabah and were natives of the state.

“On checking, their identity cards were found to be fake,” it said.

The NRD said the identity cards were obtained through a syndicate in Sandakan, Sabah at a fee of RM500 each.

It said further investigation revealed that six of them were from Basilan, Philippines while the other admitted that he was from South Sulawesi, Indonesia.

They were taken to the NRD headquarters in Putrajaya for the documentation process and further investigation.

The seven are being detained under Regulation 25(1)(e) of the National Registration Regulations 1990 (Amendment 2007) and can be jailed for up to three years or fined up to RM20,000, or both, if convicted. — Bernama
