KUALA LUMPUR, March 23 — Bagan MP Lim Guan Eng was ejected from the Dewan Rakyat tonight after an hour-long verbal brawl with the deputy Speaker seeking a retraction from Umno minister Datuk Abdul Rahman Dahlan for the latter’s “pembohong” or liar remark.

Lim had insisted that Abdul Rahman’s remark was not parliamentary language and against Parliament’s Standing Orders.

Deputy Speaker Datuk Ismail Mohamed Said also ejected Rasah MP Teo Kok Seong from the House for trying to record a video of his DAP secretary-general being kicked out.

The duo was barred from returning until tomorrow morning.

“It is not a waste of time to defend the Standing Order,” the Bagan MP told reporters outside the Dewan Rakyat after being sent out.

“It has been unparliamentary ever since I first entered Parliament in 1986. Whoever said it would have to leave the Dewan,” he said, referring to usage of the term “liar” on an MP while in the House.

“But this time the parliamentarian asking for a retraction is asked to leave for defending the rules of the meeting instead of the person uttering the words,” he added.

The argument began when Lim demanded Abdul Rahman retract his statement on March 16 that Lim had “lied” in a video recording, claiming the federal government had set the price for affordable housing at RM400,000.

Deputy Speaker Ismail in turn ruled that Abdul Rahman, in his statement, did not refer to Lim’s character, but instead was calling the facts uttered as “lies”.

A battle of words then ensued between parliamentarians on both sides, including Umno MP for Tanjung Karang Datuk Seri Noh Omar, until Ismail ejected Lim for being “stubborn”.

Several DAP MPs also walked out of the House upon Lim’s and Teo’s ejection.
