KUALA LUMPUR, March 18 — The Magistrate’s Court here today ordered an unemployed youth to enter his defence over a charge of stealing a mobile phone at Plaza Low Yat in July last year.

Magistrate Nur’Aminahtul Mardiah Md Nor ruled that the prosecution had succeeded in proving a prima facie case against Shahrul Anuar Abdul Aziz, 23.

The court set three days from April 12 for the defence trial.

The accused allegedly stole an RM800 mobile phone from Techasia Boutique, Plaza Low Yat in Bukit Bintang at 4.47 pm on July 11 last year.

The charge under Section 380 of the Penal Code provides for a maximum imprisonment of 10 years and fine upon conviction.

Shahrul Anuar was also fined RM2,000 by the Magistrate’s Court here on Feb 12 this year after pleading guilty to taking syabu at the Dang Wangi police headquarters.

On Feb 24, the accused was once again brought to court and charged with hurting a mechanic with a machete in Jalan Jelatek here on Feb 20.

He pleaded not guilty to the charge.

Deputy public prosecutor S.Malini Anne conducted the prosecution while Shahrul was represented by Tan Sri Abdul Aziz Abdul Rahman, Mohd Khairul Azam Abdul Aziz, Mohammad Yahya Zakaria and Ihsan Busyro Zakaria. — Bernama
