GEORGE TOWN, March 17 ― DAP fully supports any reforms on political funding and has no qualms about revealing the party’s funding details, the party secretary-general Lim Guan Eng said.

The Penang lawmaker said the federal opposition party has always been transparent about its funding.

“We are not afraid of being transparent, we have nothing to hide,” he said in response to claims by Universiti Malaya’s professor Dr Terence Gomez that the DAP is opposed to the proposed reform.

Gomez held a Political Financing Reform debate with Bayan Baru MP Sim Tze Tzin earlier this month.

Lim pointed out that the DAP would reveal how much it collects from the public during every party ceramah and dinner and the information would subsequently be submitted to the Registrar of Society.

He said the names of each donor could not be revealed, however, since the funds are collected during these mass events.

On corporations that donate to the DAP, Lim said the party would have to respect their wish to remain anonymous.

“If they donate anonymously, how can we reveal who they are?” he said.

Lim also criticised New Straits Times, saying the English daily had misquoted him saying that the DAP had never received any donations.

“What I said was that DAP had never received personal donations of RM2.6 billion,” he said.

Earlier, at the launch of the Whistleblower Policy, he said PDC is the first Penang Organisation to launch its own policy on whistleblowing.

“This is to make it easier for the workers and the public to report any improper conduct,” he said.

He said the policy is in line with the state government's policies to fight corruption and be an example of clean governance.
