KUALA LUMPUR, March 16 — A young girl named “Emily” was the first to donate to the Save Malaysia movement, Datuk Zaid Ibrahim said today as he urged Malaysians to each contribute RM10.

The former de facto law minister, who is part of the movement led by former prime minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad that is pushing for the current prime minister’s removal, also announced Save Malaysia’s account number — 8007944402 (CIMB).

“To young Emily who started the ball rolling, have a Happy Birthday this Saturday,” Zaid wrote on his blog.

“We will work hard for you and for the other young Malaysians who want a better country,” he said, adding that 20 others have donated RM10 each.

Zaid said last Thursday that the Save Malaysia movement — which comprises prominent figures like former MCA president Tun Dr Ling Liong Sik and ex-minister Tan Sri Sanusi Junid — would not seek funding from tycoons, claiming that getting assistance from businessmen in exchange for favours was the root cause of corruption.
