KOTA BARU, March 15 — The Home Ministry (KDN) will launch a massive operation to combat drug abuse and addiction in Kelantan this year, according to its deputy minister Masir Kujat.

He said psychotropic pills recorded the highest usage among drug addicts in the state, at almost 80 per cent, compared to other types of drugs as it was cheaper and easily obtained, thanks to the smuggling activities.

“We are aware that the use of psychotropic pills is rampant in Kelantan and the KDN is declaring war against it,” he told reporters after chairing the Kelantan Anti-Drug Action Council meeting here today.

Also present were National Anti-Drug Agency (AADK) director-general Datuk Suhaimi Abdullah, Kelantan AADK director Ibrahim Abdul Ghani and Kelatan Police chief Datuk Mazlan Lazim.

Masir said the AADK, police and other enforcement agencies under the ministry would be involved and deployed an integrated and organised manner during the massive operation. — Bernama
