KUALA LUMPUR, March 14 — A total of 31 cases of official information and secret leak were recorded by the Chief Government Security Office (CGSO) from 2010 to 2015.
Minister in the Prime Minister's Department Datuk Seri Azalina Othman Said said the government had prepared a policy framework to address the issue of information leaks and the way to resolve the problem in the short and long run.
"For that, the government has also identified three key elements, namely human, technology and process, which need to be improved to address and curb the leakage of classified information."
She said this in a written reply to Datuk Wan Mohammad Khair-il Anuar Wan Ahmad (BN-Kuala Kangsar) who wanted to know the number of information leak cases in the past five years and what was the government's plan to address the issue.
To another question, Azalina said between 2011 and 2015, a total of 15 individuals were investigated under the Official Secrets Act 1972, including four who had been charged in court.
"Under Section 8 of the Official Secrets Act 1972, any individual found to have leaked any official secret, code, countersign or password, shall be liable to imprisonment for a term not less than one year but not exceeding seven years," she added. — Bernama
