KUCHING, March 9 — A self-employed man was sentenced to seven days in prison and fined RM10,000 in default one month’s jail by the Special Corruption Sessions Court here today for bribing an enforcement officer.

Judge Nixon Kennedy Kumbong handed down the punishment on Lai Mo Jen, 41, after he admitted offering RM1,500 to assistant enforcement officer, Muhammad Fitri Anuar Zainal Abidin as an inducement to refrain from taking action against him under Section 18 of the Film Censorship Act 2002.

Lai committed the offence at New Vision Disc Centre, King’s Centre Jalan Simpang Tiga, here, on November 28 last year.

In the same court, a RELA member, Abdul Malek Othman claimed trial to making a false claim for duty allowances totaling RM14,848 with regard to ‘Peti Undi April 2012’ and ‘Pengakuan kehadiran Anggota RELA’.

He allegedly committed the offence at the Sarawak RELA Headquarters, no 176, Lot 28, Blok 10 KCD, Jalan Rock, here on July 4, 2012 under Section 18 of the MACC Act 2009.

The court fixed April 4 for mention and four days for trial from April 11.
