KUALA LUMPUR, March 9 ― Former Terengganu mentri besar Datuk Seri Ahmad Said has no plans to quit Umno despite failing to push through a no-confidence vote against his successor in the state assembly yesterday.
The Kijal assemblyman said he only wanted Datuk Seri Ahmad Razif Abd Rahman out of office and not a change to the ruling party, The Star daily reported today.
“If I was bad, I would have done it a long time ago. It would have been much easier for me to leave, plus that would see a change in the ruling party.
“All we want is a change in mentri besar. It is not about having PAS or any other opposition party ruling the state,” he was quoted saying.
Ahmad, who was MB from March 2008 to May 2014, dropped a bombshell in the state lawmaking house yesterday when he sought to table a no-confidence vote against Razif, which was subsequently rejected by the Speaker for failing to give a two-week notice as required.
In a separate report by Malay daily Sinar Harian today, Ahmad expressed regret that his motion was rejected, insisting he had followed procedure.
