KUALA LUMPUR, March 4— A Sarawak parliamentarian had RM30,000 and a pistol stolen from his vehicle in Kuching, Sarawak yesterday.
The Borneo Post reported that the unnamed MP had left the cash and the gun in a bag on the front passenger seat of his pickup truck before going off to buy gardening tools.
“The MP had withdrawn the cash at a bank at Mile 7 for personal use and placed the cash inside an envelope, which he then put into his bag which also contained his black Browning pistol,” Padawan district police chief Supt Ng Ah Lek was quoted as saying.
“The bag was then left on the front passenger seat as the MP headed to a shop at Mile 3 to purchase gardening tools,” he added.
Ng was reported as saying that when the MP returned in less than 10 minutes, the latter found the front passenger’s window smashed and the bag no longer at sight.
He added that a witness told the police that two men on a green Modenas motorcycle were seen suspiciously lingering near the vehicle prior to the incident.
“The pillion rider approached the pickup truck, which was blocked by other vehicles, and was seen running back to his accomplice less than a minute later before both sped off from the from the scene,” Supt was reported as saying.
Ng added the witness believed the pair to be of Chinese descent and are believed to be in their 30s.
