KUALA LUMPUR, March 4 — Prominent activists Datuk Ambiga Sreenevasan and Maria Chin Abdullah, once critical of Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad, have turned up at the former prime minister’s much-anticipated announcement of a citizens’ movement against the government.

The event, which has a large media turnout, also saw the attendance of Dr Mahathir’s former political foes, such as PAS and Amanah leaders Datuk Mustafa Ali and Mohamad Sabu.

PKR vice-president Chua Tian Chang was also spotted, together with Umno critics of Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak, Datuk Khairuddin Abu Hassan and Anina Saadudin.

Dr Mahathir is expected to announce a declaration calling for Najib’s legitimate removal, which was signed by some 30 Malaysians including politicians from both Barisan Nasional (BN) and the opposition as well as civil society leaders.

The former Umno president, who this week resigned again from the party, has yet to arrive.
