PETALING JAYA, Feb 29 — A man was slashed to death and another injured after 12 assailants in four cars chased the motorcycle they were on for 2km before cornering them in Jalan Utara.

Paramanathan Sabramaniam, 36, who died on the spot, and his friend, B. Jeevanathan, 24, whose hand was injured, had earlier tried to outrun the attackers after an argument at the Ol'Skool Bistro in Jalan Gasing.

Jeevanathan managed to run 500m to a hotel for help.

They were attacked with sharp objects, leaving Paramanathan in a pool of blood on the road between the Sri Petaling primary school and Bukit Bintang secondary school.

A passerby alerted police to the body at the roadside.

Police believe the attackers had wanted to exact revenge on the duo for reasons not imediately known.

Paramanathan, who was slashed four times, also sustained injuries on his head and stomach.

Petaling Jaya police chief ACP Mohd Zani Che Din said Paramanathan had a criminal record for threatening and riot-related offences.

A background check on the victim who is also known as Suresh Bunga revealed that he was involved in underworld activities and believed to be a member of the notorious Gang 04.

Police have recorded a statement from a security guard at the Bukit Bintang secondary school who witnessed the incident and the passerby who alerted police to the death.

They have launched a manhunt for the attackers with six suspects identified so far.

Police have also interviewed Jeevanathan who was sent to the University Malaya Medical Centre for treatment.

Paramanathan’s body was sent to the the hospital for a post-mortem.

In a separate incident, a man was killed and another in a coma after a drive-by shooting in Kajang at 4.40am yesterday.

The deceased was identified as Thomas Mudiapen, 45, and the injured victim as Vinoth Sukumaran, 27.

They were found motionless in front of a petrol station in Jalan Semenyih-Kajang by a passerby.
