KUALA LUMPUR, Feb 19 ― Seasonal discounts will no longer be offered to traffic offenders, the police said today.

Bukit Aman traffic chief Mahamad Akhir also confirmed that the current RM300 compound fine for traffic offences will not be increased for now, after Inspector-General of Police (IGP) Tan Sri Khalid Abu Bakar said the police were considering a hike.

“We don't encourage this seasonal offers. We don't want Malaysians to have this waiting attitude, paying their summons only during offer seasons.

“If the offer comes say after two years of them being fined, then they will not pay for two years. So, no more such practices,” Mahamad told reporters here after attending a traffic awareness function at KL Sentral.

The IGP said recently that the police were considering a possible increase in the RM300 fine as some motorists appeared to be undeterred by the amount.
