KUALA LUMPUR, Jan 30 — Nikon Singapore is being mercilessly mocked after the camera distributor selected a Photoshopped picture as the winning submission for a photograph contest.
The image chosen, submitted by one Chay Yu Wei, showed what appeared to be an aeroplane framed by the outline of a ladder by the side of a building.
“Yu Wei chanced upon a set of ladders while on a photowalk with his friends in Chinatown, and thought the view above would make an interesting perspective.
“Little did he expect to catch an airplane in mid-air. We’ll try looking up too, Yu Wei; your shot has won you a Nikon trolley bag. Congratulations!” Nikon Singapore posted on its Facebook page yesterday.
Little did Nikon Singapore expect to catch the resulting mockery for its choice.
On the page, some users demonstrated how the outline of the plane was superimposed into the image, while others concluded it was not even an actual plane but an icon.
Yet other users derisively submitted their own doctored images that replaced the plane with, among others, an X-Wing and TIE Fighter from “Star Wars”, James Bond as played by Daniel Craig, and a variety of trains.
“You will never find aircraft flying that low over Chinatown. It’s just not on the approach path to ANY airport in Singapore. In fact, there is a restricted area near Chinatown where aircraft are not allowed to fly below 10,000 ft. Even if he had used the Multiply setting, I would still call BS on that pic,” a user by the name of Aaron Mok wrote.
