KUALA LUMPUR, Jan 29 — Malaysia holds the record for the highest percentage of workers who claim their work is stopping them from practising a healthier lifestyle, according to a HSBC report released today.

Nearly half of Malaysians, or 46 per cent, polled last year by the British bank in its retirement trends survey claimed that “work commitments” prevented them from leading a healthier lifestyle.

The number is significantly higher than the global average of 34 per cent and the top among the 17 countries where HSBC conducted the survey.

The survey also said that 42 per cent of Malaysian retirees claim that their health had improved since retirement.

“It is evident that retirees are doing more than pre-retirees to reduce the risk of poor health,” HSBC’s Country Head of Wealth Management, Lim Eng Seong, told a media briefing today.

According to the report, 56 per cent of retirees also said that their relationship with their spouses improved following retirement.
