KOTA KINABALU, Jan 25 — The Sabah Security Council is giving serious attention in assessing security threats, including the movement and influence of the Daesh terrorists in the state, said Chief Minister Datuk Seri Musa Aman.

Musa, who is also the council chairman, said the security authorities in Sabah had been instructed to closely monitor any signs of threats and to take ongoing precautions.

“All security agencies will beef up their capacity and cooperation as a team to act against the possibility of any kind of threats that can occur,” he told reporters after chairing the state security council meeting here today.

On the whole, Musa said the current security situation was good and under control but wanted the people to give their cooperation as the ‘eyes and ears’ by channelling information of any suspicious signs of security threat in their areas.

He said this was important so that immediate preventive measures could be taken by the authorities to stop any form of threat that could harm security in the state.

Meanwhile commenting on the arrest of a Sabahan man suspected of being involved in terrorism during an operation in Johor, Sabah Police Commissioner Datuk Abd Rashid Harun said police was still investigating if he had a network in Sabah.

“We are monitoring this matter and investigating his links with Sabah,” he said.

Yesterday the media reported that the police arrested seven local men in five states for suspected involvement in the Daesh militant group.

One of the suspects, aged 31, detained in Johor, is from Sabah and worked as an assistant housekeeping manager in a hotel in Nusajaya. — Bernama
