KUALA LUMPUR, Jan 24 — The Malaysian Embassy in Jordan is making arrangements to transfer the two Malaysian students injured in a road accident from the Mafraq Government Hospital to Amman, about 70 kilometres away.

A statement from the Foreign Ministry, here today said that the arrangements were being made with the cooperation of the Jordanian Health Ministry.

According to the statement, the two injured students, namely Fatin Nor Syahirah Ramli and Izam Hasif, were receiving preliminary treatment at the hospital after the accident involving their vehicle at Safawi, near Mafraq town yesterday morning (local time).

Three of their friends, Fatin Ikmal Izyani Che Aziz, Hana' Azaha, and Al Najiatun Nailah Mohd Shafie died in the incident when their car was involved in a collision with another vehicle coming from the opposite direction.

According to Wisma Putra, all of them were third year students at the University of Mu'tah, located 143km south of Amman.

“The next of kins of all the students have been contacted and the necessary arrangements are being made by the embassy,” the statement said.

Wisma Putra, which expressed its condolences to the families of all the victims, also appreciated the cooperation and assistence accorded by the Jordanian government in the case.

The appreciation was especially directed to the Jordanian Minister of Higher Education and Research, Jordanian Minister of Health, as well as the University of Mu'tah, University of Al Albayt, the Mafraq Government Hospital, Mafraq Traffic Police, the Mu'tah Malaysian Students Union (PERMATA), Mafraq Malaysian Students Union (PRISMA), as well as the Malaysian students in Mu'tah, Mafraq and Irbid.
