SINGAPORE, Jan 21 — A 24-year-old man was charged today with stealing about S$900,000 (RM2.7 million) worth of casino chips, among other items, at Marina Bay Sands last year.

Malaysian Jackson Yeoh is accused of stealing a casino patron’s bag, which contained S$10,000 in cash, casino chips valued at S$900,000, a handphone and credit cards. The combined value of the items is an estimated S$911,500. The theft took place around 8.45pm on September 2.

With assistance from the Royal Malaysia Police, Yeoh was arrested in Malaysia and handed over to Singapore authorities yesterday.

The bespectacled man appeared unrepresented in court today. He will be remanded for a week as investigations continue, and return to court on January 28.

If convicted, Yeoh could be fined, jailed up to three years, or both. ― TODAY
