LANGKAWI, Jan 15 ― Malaysia's marine police will strengthen cooperation with their Thai counterpart through sharing of information on the latest tactics employed by criminals in their respective waters.

Bukit Aman Internal Security and Public Order operations deputy director Datuk Ab Razak Ab Ghani said both sides would continue to hold regular meetings.

“We know that criminals will always think of new tactics to enter our waters so we need to share information to counter this challenge,” he said after a working visit to the Marine Police Division in Satun, Thailand yesterday.

He said drug, weapon and human smuggling was among the criminal activities which both sides were focused on and had jointly succeeded in decreasing. 

“We hold a joint operation monthly to ensure that we are ever ready to face any threats that are waiting to enter our waters,” he said.

Ab Razak, accompanied by Bukit Aman Marine Police commander SAC Abdul Rahim Abdullah and other senior police officials, was received at Satun by the province's Marine Police Division chief inspector Lt Col Santipong Pansawat.

He also attended a briefing on the division's achievements, given by its sub-inspector Lt Tatpong Tepchai. 

Satun is located in southern Thailand, about 40 kilometres northeast of Langkawi. ― Bernama
