KUALA LUMPUR, Jan 14 — The Foreign Affairs Ministry here has confirmed that so far, Malaysians in Jakarta have not been affected by the bomb explosions in the Indonesian capital today.

In a brief statement, the ministry also advised Malaysians travelling to the Indonesian city to be extra vigilant and to adhere to instructions issued by the local authorities.

"The Government of Malaysia wishes to convey its deepest sympathies and condolences to the Government and the people of the Republic of Indonesia on the tragic incident," it said.

Reports from Jakarta earlier today said about six bombs went off at the center of the Indonesian capital, killing at least six people in the process.

According to a Reuters witness, police were seen later exchanging fire with gunmen.

One of the blasts, according to the wire agency, was in a Starbucks cafe.

"The Starbucks cafe windows are blown out. I see three dead people on the road. There has been a lull in the shooting but someone is on the roof of the building and police are aiming their guns at him," a Reuters photographer said in the agency's report earlier.

At the time of writing, reports said that Indonesian police have shot dead four suspected militants.
