KUALA LUMPUR, Jan 12 ― The Cabinet will decide by the end of the month on how vaping should be regulated, a minister announced amid different policies in various states.

Local daily Sinar Harian reported Domestic Trade, Cooperatives and Consumerism Minister Datuk Hamzah Zainuddin as saying that the federal government would also decide on what devices should be allowed to be used for electronic cigarettes.

“We will get a standard decision on what [vape] mods can be used. There’s a possibility that we will prohibit devices that produce vapour containing nicotine as that could cause illnesses,” Hamzah was quoted saying in Putrajaya yesterday.

“We have obtained research from the whole world, not just our own country. Let the Cabinet make the decision,” he added.

Some states like Negri Sembilan and Pahang have banned Muslims from vaping, while other states have merely imposed a ban on the sale of vape products, like Kelantan, Penang, Kedah, Johor and Terengganu. Malacca has announced a total prohibition on vaping.
