PUTRAJAYA, Jan 5 ― Expressing concern over the developments in the Middle East in the wake of mob attacks on Saudi Arabian diplomatic missions, Malaysia has called on Teheran to take all appropriate steps to protect foreign missions in Iran. 

Foreign Minister Datuk Seri Anifah Aman, in a statement issued today, said this was in accordance with the 1961 Vienna Convention on Diplomatic Relations.

He also called for the necessary legal action to be taken against the perpetrators of the attacks.

“Malaysia is deeply concerned over the developments in the Middle East region and strongly condemns the acts of the mob that attacked the Embassy and Consulate of Saudi Arabia in Teheran and Mashhad, respectively,” he said.

According to news reports, Saudi Arabia has severed ties with Iran after protesters attacked its embassy in Teheran and consulate in Mashhad, stemming from Riyadh's execution of a Shiah cleric Sheikh Nimr Baqir al-Nimr. ― Bernama
