KUALA LUMPUR, Jan 4 — The High Court here granted Baitulmal Professional Institute (IBP) CEO Dr Syed Omar Syed Aqil today a temporary injunction against his suspension from the Islamic college that purportedly acted against him for whistleblowing on alleged financial mismanagement.

His lawyer Amer Hamzah Arshad told reporters here that Justice John Louis O’Hara had in chambers fixed February 12 for the hearing of the full injunction Syed Omar had applied for and that the interim injunction would stand until the case was resolved.

“The ad-interim injunction was granted, pending the disposal of the inter-parte injunction hearing,” Amer Hamzah said.

Syed Omar had on December 16, 2015, filed for the injunction against IBP’s decision to suspend him since last October pending an internal investigation.

He claimed the suspension was due to him lodging reports to the police and the to Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) about possible funds misappropriation by the administration of the private tertiary institution that is majority-owned by the Federal Territories Islamic Council (MAIWP).

Malay Mail Online reported earlier today Syed Omar’s affidavit in support of his interim injunction application that claimed financial mismanagement in IPB, in which he also said he was given a show cause letter the same day that the MACC came to IPB’s premises here to conduct a search and seizure.

The police have confirmed investigating Syed Omar’s complaint under Section 409 of the Penal Code for criminal breach of trust by a public servant, according to a document sighted by Malay Mail Online.
