KUALA LUMPUR, Dec 22 ― Police here detained Australian actress Eliza Szonert after she refused to release her son that she took away from his father, or share his location, Australian paper Sydney Morning Herald (SMH) reported today.
According to SMH, Szonert is likely to be remanded today, which could result in further detention of up to four days.
Szonert, 41, reportedly went to a police station here yesterday afternoon together with her lawyer for questioning over her snatched son, but was detained the same day.
SMH cited Szonert’s mother Kay as confirming the police questioning, also reporting that Kay is now taking care of Szonert’s son in Malaysia.
On December 10, Szonert reportedly took away her son from her estranged partner Ashley Crick at a restaurant in Mid Valley Megamall, while he was speaking to one of two burly men from a child recovery agency accompanying her.
Col Chapman, spokesman of the Child Recovery Australia firm that enabled Szonert to snatch the son, said his client has asked the Australian High Commission to help secure her release.
Crick, a 43-year-old businessman said to be working here, had reportedly sought local police’s aid and voiced concern over the safety of his son.
He also reportedly wants to return to Australia with his son to seek custody at the courts there.
Szonert previously claimed that she took her son here to visit Crick, but alleged that she was kicked out of the apartment without her passport or child after a dispute.
She is said to be stranded in Malaysia as she does not have her passport or her son’s passport.
