KULAI, Dec 7 — Starting January 2016, Nusajaya, which houses Johor government’s administrative centre, will be renamed Iskandar Puteri.

State Secretary Datuk Ismail Karim said the change of the name was made with the consent of the Sultan of Johor, Sultan Ibrahim Sultan Iskandar and approval from the state government.

“The district of Ledang will be renamed as Tangkak, while Kulaijaya will be renamed as Kulai,” he said after opening the 4th annual general meeting of the Federation of Malaysian School Bus Operators Associations here today.

Last August, Sultan Ibrahim ordered the state government to change Kulaijaya’s name back to its original name, Kulai, with immediate effect.

He said no matter how peculiar the name of the district of village was, it should be maintained as it was given by the locals based on its suitability and history.

Sultan Ibrahim also urged the state government to consider a new name for Nusajaya, as the name was seen to have nothing to do with the history of the place. — Bernama
