KUALA LUMPUR, Dec 4 ― Tan Sri Khalid Abu Bakar has rubbished fears of a security risk for next week’s Professional Squash Association (PSA) Women’s World Championships, saying that the police were always ready to deal with any type of threat.
The tournament, scheduled to be held at Bukit Jalil and KLCC from December 11 to 18, was thrown into uncertainty after promoters raised a red flag over security issues, according to The Star.
“We are remaining vigilant to ensure the safety and security of the country. However, there is no evidence to suggest any danger or security risk," the Inspector-General of Police (IGP) reportedly said.
“We will first approach the organisers and find out what they meant by security risks. All branches of the police are ready to protect the country from any threat,” he added.
Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak also expressed his concern over the matter on Twitter yesterday, saying that many events have hosted by Malaysia without incident.
“Malaysia recently hosted many foreign delegates and leaders in various summits, which went on smoothly.
“We also host various other events, including sporting competitions every year without any incident,” he said.
