GEORGE TOWN, Dec 4 — A man was killed, while seven female factory workers in a van were injured after their vehicles collided head-on at Tun Dr Lim Chong Eu near Queensbay Mall here early today.
Azwan Hadi Mohd Nor, 36, who was also a factory worker, died at the scene. Barat Daya District Police chief Supt Lai Fah Him said two of the seven factory workers sustained severe injuries in the mishap which occurred at 5.45am.
“The driver of the Proton Wira car was heading to George Town from Bayan Lepas industrial area, but upon arriving at the scene, his car skidded and collided head-on with the van which was heading to Bayan Lepas from George Town,” he told reporters here today.
The body was taken to Balik Pulau Hospital for post-mortem. Lai said due to the impact of the collision, the van could not avoid hitting two other cars, but the drivers escaped unhurt.
All victims with minor injuries were taken to Penang Hospital for treatment, while the two with severe injuries were warded at a private hospital in Bayan Baru.
The accident also caused massive traffic jam on both sides of the expressway. — Bernama
