KUALA LUMPUR, Nov 30 — The Public Accounts Committee (PAC) today said it expects to complete its final report on its probe on 1Malaysia Development Berhad (1MDB) by March 2016.
PAC chairman Datuk Hasan Arifin said in a statement that the committee’s priority is to conduct a comprehensive and fair investigation on 1MDB’s activities.
He said they are satisfied with the cooperation by former 1MDB chief executive Datuk Shahrol Azral Ibrahim Halmi, who spent two days answering questions directed at him by members of the PAC.
“Likewise, all PAC members had the opportunity to ask questions that were very satisfactory in terms of all aspects regarding 1MDB’s management,” he said.
Hasan said next on their list will be 1MDB president Arul Kanda Kandasamy, who will give his statement to the PAC tomorrow.
The PAC will also call 1MDB chairman Tan Sri Lodin Wak Kamaruddin to give his statement after the committee has been briefed by the Auditor-General on his final report on the audit on 1MDB.
On a separate topic, Hasan said the PAC sees the need for the A-G to conduct another audit on four incinerators at Pulau Tioman, Pulau Pangkor, Cameron Highlands and Langkawi.
“This is because there has yet to be any final solution from the ministry and it is important for the environment and tourism industry as all the incinerators are located in famous tourism sites,” he said.
Earlier, Shahrol spent about three hours before the bipartisan committee, where he said he provided “long lengthy answers”.
“We look forward to cooperate further,” he said after the meeting, declining to say anything further.
Aside from the PAC, the Auditor-General is also conducting an audit on the accounts of 1MDB, which has reportedly amassed debts of some RM42 billion since it was incorporated in 2009.
