IPOH, Nov 27 — The number of flood victims in Perak increased slightly to 413 people from 121 families this afternoon compared to 410 from 120 families this morning.
Director of the Perak Fire and Rescue Department Datuk Yahya Madis said the latest victims were from Lebai Kadir, Mat Keling, Air Hitam Dua and Simpang Lima in Bagan Serai, with 18 victims from eight families compared to 15 from seven families this morning.
He said the 16 flood victims in Kampung Ali Kalang, comprising members of five families, had all been evacuated to Sekolah Kebangsaan Bukit Merah.
“Meanwhile, 120 people from 37 families in Batu 38 and 40, Kampung Beriah and Parit Abu Hassan in Bagan Serai are still in the same evacuation centre,” he said when contacted today.
He said the number of flood victims in Kampung Changkat Lobak, Kampung Permatang Tengah and Parit Air Hitam also remained at 139 from 33 families, all of whom were staying at Sekolah Kebangsaan Changkat Lobak.
Yahya said the number of flood victims in the Hilir Perak district remained at 56 people from 16 families, involving Kampung Mesra Batu 7, Changkat Jong, Teluk Intan, Kampung Lorong Mesra, Batu 9 and Kampung Lorong.
All have been given shelter at Sekolah Kebangsaan Changkat Jong, Teluk Intan.
“In Pantai Remis, the number of landslide victims remained at 64 from 22 families, and all have been placed at the Sekolah Agama Rakyat Kampung Padang Serai,” he said.
He added that the water level in the flooded area was now at between 0.1 metres to 3.05 metres.
In MIRI, the Medamit Community Hall flood evacuation centre was closed at 1.30pm after 300 people from 107 families who were staying there were allowed to go home.
Limbang Civil Defence Department Officer Subuh Posa told Bernama today that this was because the flood water level in Kampung Hujung Medamit had dropped compared to two days ago when the victims had to be evacuated.
Meanwhile, head of the Miri Fire and Rescue Department Law Poh Kong said the water level in two more areas, Long Maro and Kampung Hunan Tanjung Batu, were being monitored.
He added that food supplies had also been sent by helicopter to residents in Long Panai, Long Iman and Kampung Melinau and requests for food had also been received from 573 residents in Long Bemang and Long Ukok.
In SHAH ALAM, it was reported that two flood victim evacuation centres in Kuala Selangor were closed after the floods subsided.
In a statement issued today, Kuala Selangor District Officer Shamsul Shahril Badliza Mohd Noor said the evacuation centre in Masjid Simpang Tiga, Jeram was closed on Wednesday while the one in Balairaya Kampung Bukit Hijau was closed at 3.30pm today.
He said to date, only five evacuation centres were still operating, sheltering 178 victims from 46 families.
These were 53 victims at the Sekolah Kebangsaan Parit Mahang, 43 in Balairaya Kampung Bukit Kuching, 17 in Balairaya Kampung Bukit Cherakah, 37 in Balairaya Kampung Asahan and 28 in the Ladang Tuan Mee surau, he said.
Meanwhile, a flood victim, Arbiah Ijah, 64, who had just returned to her home in Jalan Kenangan, Kampung Parit Mahang at about 10am today died after she fell in the bathroom.
According to Kuala Selangor District Information Officer, Norfarhana Mohd Zainal Abidin, Arbiah was the first flood victim in the area to die, caused by her asthmatic condition. — Bernama
