KUALA LUMPUR, Nov 26 ― PKR deputy president Azmin Ali today accused Barisan Nasional (BN) MPs of using their parliamentary majority to “bully” his colleague Nurul Izzah Anwar in the row over a controversial photograph of the lawmaker with Jacel Kiram.

He noted that the Dewan Rakyat is expected to debate on December 3 a motion to censure Nurul Izzah for meeting with the so-called Sulu “princess”, who is the daughter of the late Sulu “Sultan” Jamalul Kiram III, the man who masterminded the Lahad Datu invasion.

“The latest move by BN MPs to take punitive action against Nurul Izzah through Parliament is both undemocratic and a gross abuse of the Parliamentary process.

“If carried through, it is nothing short of the tyranny of the majority showcasing once again BN as the big bully on the block,” Azmin said in a statement here.

The Selangor mentri besar pointed out that both Nurul Izzah and fellow PKR lawmaker Chua Tian Chang have already explained that they were not the ones who arranged the meeting in the Philippines where the photograph was taken.

In the duo's explanation, Azmin recalled, the lawmakers had pointed out that Jacel had been invited by the hosts of the meeting, which included the office of the vice-president of Philippines.

Furthermore, he said no evidence has been provided to controvert this explanation.

“Despite this, top government leaders and police leadership have spared no effort in vilifying Nurul Izzah including making wild allegations of treasonous conduct.

“These politically motivated attacks are disgraceful and cowardly,” he said.

“This harassment must stop and BN leaders should instead answer the public's questions on the various national financial scandals gripping the country,” he added.

It was confirmed yesterday that the federal government will table its motion to censure Nurul Izzah over her meeting with Jacel on December 3, after Parliament concludes all business related to Budget 2016.

Nurul Izzah caused a stir here when photographs of her with Jacel emerged, with some accusing the Lembah Pantai MP of committing treason by associating herself with the kin of the man whose followers invaded Sabah in 2013.

Under Jamalul’s orders, 200 armed men had attacked the coastal township of Lahad Datu to claim the Sulu Sultanate's centuries-old claim over the state, resulting in the death of 10 Malaysian security personnel.

Nurul Izzah had previously confirmed that she was in the Philippines on November 9 with fellow federal lawmaker Chua Tian Chang as part of a PKR delegation to meet with “various stakeholders” there, and explained that the guests were decided by the organisers and she had no knowledge she would be meeting Jacel.

The police are expected to question Nurul Izzah at Bukit Aman tomorrow evening.

Earlier today, Nurul Izzah filed a defamation lawsuit against Inspector-General of Police (IGP) Tan Sri Khalid Abu Bakar and federal minister Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob for suggesting “treason” in her act of meeting Jacel.
