KUALA LUMPUR, Nov 26 ― The country’s top cop said today that PKR Nurul Izzah Anwar can file a lawsuit against him but she will still face a police probe tomorrow on her meeting with the daughter of a self-styled Sulu “sultan”.

Inspector-General of Police (IGP) Tan Sri Khalid Abu Bakar was commenting on Nurul Izzah’s lawsuit against him for purportedly suggesting that her meet with Jacel Kiram could be “treason”.

“She can sue, but police investigation (into Nurul Izzah's case) will still continue,” he was quoted saying in Ipoh by news portal The Malaysian Insider.

Khalid reportedly said that Nurul Izzah will be quizzed on the reason for the meeting with Jacel, who he said was the spokesman for the group of armed men under the self-styled Sulu “sultan” that invaded Lahad Datu, Sabah, in 2013.

“We want to know why she (Nurul Izzah) was there because I need to explain to the families of my men who perished in the Sulu attack in Lahad Datu.

“So, she needs to answer,” he was quoted saying in the same report.

Khalid said PKR leader Chua Tian Chang will also be quizzed on whether he met with Jacel during the same visit to the Philippines earlier this month with a PKR delegation that included Nurul Izzah.

The senior policeman said Chua may also sue him if the federal lawmaker wishes to do so.

Earlier today, Nurul Izzah filed a defamation suit against Khalid and federal minister Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob for purportedly claiming her actions amount to treason, seeking an injunction to bar anyone from repeating their claims and also sought compensation from the duo.

Nurul Izzah had previously confirmed that she was in the Philippines on November 9 with Chua as part of a PKR delegation to meet with “various stakeholders” there, and explained that the guests were decided by the organisers and she had no knowledge she would be meeting Jacel.

Jacel is a candidate for senatorship in the Philippines and the daughter of the late Jamalul Kiram III, a claimant to the defunct crown of the Sulu sultanate that had proprietorship over Sabah in the 17-century.

Under Jamalul’s orders, 200 armed men had attacked Sabah in February 2013, resulting in the death of 10 Malaysian security personnel.
