KUALA LUMPUR, Nov 22  — Seven people, including senior police officers, have been arrested on suspicion of embezzling RM1.5 million in funds meant for the repair of the federal police headquarters in Bukit Aman, Tan Sri Khalid Abu Bakar announced today.

The inspector-general of police proclaimed the arrests as proof of the force’s neutrality and commitment towards fighting crime.

“We have caught seven people… we confiscated some luxury cars and accounts. The arrests have been made since two days ago,” he said.

Senior and junior police officers as well as some contractors made up the seven arrested.

“This prove that we do not compromise when it comes to dealing with crime, even towards those within the force. This shows that we will never protect our own from their crimes,” he said.

Khalid said the seven’s remands will be decided today.

Last Wednesday, theSun reported that over RM1.5 million meant to renovate Bukit Aman, has been siphoned out in transactions through the use of doctored papers carrying forged signatures of two police directors and a civil engineer of the Public Works Department.

Citing unnamed sources, the daily reported discrepancies were discovered during an internal audit of the police logistics department by the Home Ministry some months earlier.
