KUALA LUMPUR, Nov 22 — Inspector-General of Police Tan Sri Khalid Abu Bakar said today the police will be calling up PKR lawmaker Nurul Izzah Anwar to find out the reason behind her recent meeting with Sulu princess Jacel Kiram, whom he dubbed Malaysia’s “enemy”.

He added that the police may also investigate the opposition politician under Section 124 of the Penal Code as well as under anti-terror law Security Offences (Special Measures) Act 2012.

“This is a serious matter. An MP went to meet the country’s enemy. We have to call her to find out why,” he told reporters outside the Bukit Aman mosque.

“She can be investigated under Section 124 of Penal Code. We can also use Sosma. Her action can be seen as threatening the country’s peace and safety.”

However, Section 124 of the Penal Code actually deals with assault of an elected legislator with an intent to compel or restrain the exercise of lawful power, while Sections 124B to 124N deal with activities detrimental to parliamentary democracy and national sabotage.

Khalid said he did not believe the meeting was coincidental as Nurul Izzah has claimed.

Pictures of Nurul Izzah and Jacel have been circulating online, sparking outrage among Internet users who asked why the PKR vice-president would associate herself with the daughter of the man who ordered an invasion of Sabah two years ago in a bid to claim the Malaysian state for his own.

The daughter of former opposition leader Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim was criticised as being insensitive, with some claiming her association with the Kiram family insulted Malaysian security personnel who died fighting the Sulu militants.

Nurul Izzah has since confirmed in a statement that she attended a meeting with Filipino delegates on November 9 in which Jacel was present, but stressed that the guest list was decided by the hosts.

In February 2013, over 200 Sulu gunmen stormed Lahad Datu in Sabah to stake the sultanate’s claim over the east Malaysian state. Nine Malaysian security personnel and six civilians were killed in the incident.
