KOTA KINABALU, Nov 20 — Sabah Chief Minister, Datuk Seri Musa Aman, today tabled a surplus budget of RM3.49 billion for 2016. 

He said of the total, RM714.29 million was for emoluments, RM1.17 billion for recurrent expenditure and RM1.59 billion for special expenditure. 

The development expenditure for 2016 would be RM1.14 billion, which included the state’s RM698.99 million and the federal government allocation of RM44.89 million, he said.

“Taking into consideration the global economic condition, the state government has estimated a revenue of RM3.52 billion and expenditure of RM3.49 billion. This will give a surplus budget of RM29.90 billion,” he said. 

Musa, who is also finance minister, said this when tabling the 2016 Budget at the State Assembly here today.

He said the development expenditure for 2016 would follow sectors: economy RM441.67 million (61.19 per cent); social RM212.76 million (30.44 per cent); and administration RM44.56 million (6.37 per cent).

Musa said RM1.37 billion was allocated for development of infrastructure and public facilities; agriculture (RM469.50 million); construction sector and manufacturing industry (RM76.46 million); tourism (RM218.37 million); enhancing quality of life for the people (RM290.08 million); prepare the human capital and empowering youth (RM234.96 million), sports (RM56.75 million), ICT development (RM82.16 million); women (RM218.31 million); and, urban and regional development and local authorities (RM80.22 million). — Bernama
