PETALING JAYA, Nov 17 — Members of the Australian metalcore band  “I Killed The Prom Queen” were released from the Immigration Department headquarters lockup in under 48 hours after they were nabbed by officials on Saturday.

An Immigration department source confirmed the band were detained for performing without a valid professional visit pass although the organisers were given instructions by the department to obtain one.

“We received complaints from the Central Agency for Application of Filming and Performance by Foreign Artiste (Puspal) under the Communications and Multimedia Ministry, so we informed the organisers to apply for the necessary permit required by the ministry but they did not comply,”he said.

He added that the five-man band boarded a flight for Australia last night.

He said concert organisers would be investigated and appropriate action would be taken if necessary.

“Organisers can be slapped with a fine of up to RM25,000,” he added.

Band guitarist Jona Weinhofen took to Twitter to inform fans that the band had been detained and were awaiting deportation because the organisers failed to obtained visas for the band.

Weinhofen in a series of tweets also said that the band would be detained for four to 14 days at the immigration detention centre.

“Weirdest part is some of the immigration officers asked us to autograph stuff & one is wearing a prom queen shirt. Still locking us up though,” Weinhofen tweeted shortly after.

On Sunday, he said the band were provided food, water and were in good health, adding that things could definitely be worst compared to other recent events.

Yesterday, he tweeted “freedom” which was followed by another tweet saying “Sorry Malaysia but after this horrible experience I don’t think we will return in a hurry”.
