KUALA LUMPUR, Nov 14 ― Facebook has stripped Alvin Tan of his social network account after the flamboyant blogger posted pictures of him purportedly using pages of the Muslim holy book as toilet paper.
The Malaysian fugitive confirmed on Twitter today that his Facebook page has been removed.
“Yeah, my VERIFIED FB page got permanently banned thanks to violent Muslims because I pointed out their obvious violent ideology.
“It has been PERMANENTLY BANNED thanks to rampant reporting by the #ReligionOfPeace,” he wrote on his microblogging account @AlvinTanYOLO.
He continued his condemnation of Islam in a series of tweets later, following news reports of bombings and shootings across Paris yesterday that killed over 100 people.
“Proud to hate violent, sexist, anti-Semitic ideas,” Tan replied to another Twitter user under the Religion of Peace hashtag, referring to Islam.
Global terror group Islamic State has claimed responsibility for the Paris attacks.
He conceded that his Facebook “stunt” with the Quran pages was outrageous, but insisted that it was just a photograph and “peaceful” compared to the latest outbreak of violence on the French capital, the second after the January massacre at the offices of controversial satire publication Charlie Hebdo.
Five police reports were filed against Tan in Johor yesterday, accusing the self-described Asian male porn star of insulting Islam on Facebook with his recent post, national news agency Bernama reported.
Tan, a former National University of Singapore law scholar and dropout, was first in the spotlight over a now defunct sex blog with a former girlfriend.
He has been living abroad ― according to his Twitter account, in California ― after jumping bail in August last year while on trial in the Sessions Court on three charges under the Film Censorship Act, Sedition Act and Penal Code, also for allegedly insulting Islam with a Facebook post promoting bak kut teh during the Muslim fasting month.
