KUALA LUMPUR, Nov 13 ― A 46-year-old sales executive was charged with eight counts of corruption today for allegedly receiving RM163,000 in bribes from a diamond supplier to influence her employer’s purchasing decision, the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) said today.
Lai Siew Moy was accused of receiving the bribes from an agent of the diamond supplier on eight occasions beginning between February and October 2013 through a CIMB account belonging to her husband.
MACC said she was in possession the bribes, in the form of cash and diamonds, when apprehended.
“The MACC started its investigation after we received a complaint earlier this year.
“Lai had used her husband's account to receive the bribes from the diamond supplier,” the anti-graft agency said in a statement.
She was charged in Special Sessions Court on Corruption here this morning under Section 16(a)(A) of the MACC Act 2009.
She pleaded not guilty to all charges.
If convicted the sales executive may be jailed no more than 20 years and fined not less than RM10,000 or both.
Sessions Court Judge Mohd Nasir Nordin set bail at RM25,000 for all charges with one guarantor.
