Penang DAP lawmaker claims trial to sedition charge over 'reformation' article

GEORGE TOWN, Nov 6 ― Tanjong Member of Parliament Ng Weik Aik was charged in the Sessions Court here today with sedition involving an article published in Mandarin titled, “Reformation Begins Again”.

He claimed trial to committing the offence at Kwong Wah Yit Poh Press Bhd, Lebuh Presgrave between 2.20pm and 2.30pm on February 10.        

Ng faces imprisonment of up to three years or a maximum fine of RM5,000, or both, if found guilty under Section 4(1)(c) of the Sedition Act 1948.

Judge Ibrahim Osman set bail at RM3,000 with one surety and January 8 for re-mention.

Deputy public prosecutor Datuk Razali Che Ani appeared for the prosecution while counsel Ramkarpal Singh represented the accused. ― Bernama
