KOTA BARU, Nov 2 — The Kelantan government has set up a Non-Governmental Organisation (NGO) Committee to coordinate matters concerning flood management at the state and district levels.

Mentri Besar Datuk Ahmad Yakob said the move was one of the initiatives taken following several workshops discussing preparations to face floods this year.

“The state-level committee will be chaired by State Family Development, People’s Welfare and Wellbeing Committee chairman Mumtaz Md Nawi, while the district-level committee will be chaired by the respective district officer.

“We have also set up over 700 flood relief centres and prepared various assets and equipment, such as lorries, four-wheel-drive vehicles, vans, ambulance and helicopter landing centre.”

She said this in reply to Mohamad Zaki Ibrahim (PAS-Kelaboran) who wanted to know the state government’s pre— and post-flood operation plan to ensure that all problems that occurred during the massive floods last December would not recur.  — Bernama
