KUALA LUMPUR, Nov 2 — The Attorney-General’s Chambers (AGC) said tonight that deputy public prosecutor Ahmad Shazalee Abdul Khairi has not been transferred out of the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC).
“The AGC clarifies that there is no transfer order for DPP Ahmad Shazalee Abdul Khairi out of the MACC,” it wrote in a post on Twitter.
The post is believed to be in response to a Malaysiakini article earlier tonight quoting sources as saying that DPP Ahmad Shazalee was transferred out of the anti-corruption agency today.
According to the news portal, Attorney-General Tan Sri Mohamed Apandi Ali had ordered the transfer on October 14 but the letter only reached DPP Ahmad Shazalee last Friday.
Previous reports said DPP Ahmad Shazalee, an AGC officer, had been seconded to the MACC to provide legal advice to the agency in its probe on SRC International Sdn Bhd, a former subsidiary of 1Malaysia Development Berhad (1MDB).
Malaysiakini’s report today said that Ahmad Shazalee’s secondment was supposed to run until 2017.
The news portal also contacted Apandi, who it said declined to comment on the transfer.
Malay Mail Online attempted to contact Ahmad Shazalee to respond to Malaysiakini’s report on his alleged transfer order earlier this evening but he declined, merely saying via SMS, “Sorry… I cannot comment.”
On August 1, DPP Ahmad Shazalee had his office at the MACC raided by the police and subsequently had his laptop seized, along with several documents.
