PETALING JAYA, Nov 1 — Lawyer Dr Abdul Aziz Bari was among the three Malays appointed to the Selangor DAP committee today after none of the Malays who ran for the election won.

The other two appointed to the committee were activist Young Syefura Othman and DAP portal Roketkini coordinator Edry Faizal Eddy Yusof, with the latter failing to win the polls.

“Perhaps I can speculate that the Malay members are still new. Not many of the members knew them well enough,” said Selangor DAP chairman Tony Pua, who kept his post.

“The issue is not about race, but who [the delegates] knew. Hopefully after this, the Malay members will go around the state and more members will recognise them,” he added at the Selangor DAP convention.

Aside from Edry, the other Malay members who ran for the election were Nor Miswary Ramli and Mohamad Samot. Aziz and Syefura did not contest in the polls.

Gobind Singh Deo also kept his post as deputy chairman, and so did Datuk Teng Chang Khim and Hannah Yeoh as vice chairmen, and Ean Yong as secretary.

Others elected into the committee included Dr Ong Kian Ming, Ng Sze Han, Lau Weng San, Eddie Ng, Ganabatirau Veraman and Ng Swee Lim.

The other two appointed into the committee were Yeo Bee Yin and Rajiv Rishyakaran.

Constitutional law expert Aziz joined the DAP in July this year, urging the predominantly Chinese party at the Selangor DAP convention earlier today to step up its effort in courting Malay voters.

Meanwhile, Syefura joined last year among several widely-publicised Malay recruits, including Dyana Sofya Mohd Daud who ran in the Teluk Intan by-election.
