SHAH ALAM, Oct 30 — The Selangor administration tabled today a deficit budget of RM2.88 billion, said to be the biggest budget in the state’s history.

The budget, in deficit of RM630 million with a projected collection of RM2.25 billion revenue for 2016, is bigger than this year’s with a RM42 million increase in estimated expenditure.

Mentri Besar Azmin Ali, when tabling the budget, said the allocation of RM1.44 billion for management and RM1.44 billion for development expenditure is the largest in the history of any state.

This is the second deficit budget tabled by the Selangor government since 2008 when Barisan Nasional (BN) first lost the state.

Azmin said Selangor is expected to collect RM2.25 billion in revenue next year, with more than 78 per cent to come from land premiums and property taxes.

This is a 14.2-per cent increase from its revenue from last year.

Last year, Azmin tabled a RM2.4-billion state budget for 2015, the biggest in its history and over half a billion more than the expenditure for that year.

Of the amount, RM1.29 billion (53.19 per cent) was allocated for operating expenditure while the remaining RM1.13 billion (46.81 per cent) was set aside for development purposes.
