SEBERANG PERAI, Oct 30 ― DAP has offered to assist Tun Dr Ling Liong Sik in the defamation suit filed against the former MCA president by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak.

DAP secretary-general Lim Guan Eng said his party was willing to look past politics to help Dr Ling take on Najib in the impending courtroom battle.

“Even though we are from different party, we will help Dr Ling to go against Najib's suit,” he stold a press conference after the opening of the new Pensonic headquarters here today.

The Penang chief minister said it remains to be seen if the current MCA president Datuk Seri Liow Tiong Lai would do the same for Dr Ling.

“Will Liow come out to defend Ling against the suit by Najib?” he asked.

He said this is the chance for Liow to prove his mettle as MCA minister by defending his party's former president.

“If you can't defend your former president, no one will believe you when you say you want to fight for 30 million Malaysians,” he said.

“If he doesn't come out to defend his former president, then Dr Ling will have to defend himself and we will offer him assistance,” he said.

Lim was commenting on the defamation lawsuit filed by Najib against Dr Ling on October 27 at the Kuala Lumpur High Court.

Najib is seeking an apology from Dr Ling and an injunction to prevent him from further uttering and publishing similar defamatory remarks.

Dr Ling had earlier made remarks suggesting that the prime minister had “taken people's money and put it in his own personal accounts”.
