Motorist rams police vehicle to escape arrest in George Town

GEORGE TOWN, Oct 25 — A man, wanted in connection with harassing a woman at her home in Sungai Nibong, rammed his car into a police patrol vehicle in a bid to escape arrest.

One of the two policemen in the multi-purpose vehicle (MPV) sustained cuts on the forehead and back of the head in the 6.30am incident yesterday.

Lance Corporal Mohd Khairuddin Abdul Razak, 32, sought medical treatment.

Northeast district police chief, ACP Mior Faridalatrash Wahid said after

ramming his car into the MPV, the suspect panicked and abandoned his teenage friend outside the woman’s flats in Lebuh Nipah 3.

He said the 16-year-old had been remanded for a week to facilitate investigations into locating the 27-year-old fugitive.

Mior Faridalatrash said the drama unfolded when the woman contacted the police, saying that a man was disturbing her at her home.

“Two policemen were sent to investigate and upon arrival at the flats, spotted the suspect and tried to intercept him as he tried to make a getaway.  The policemen then asked for reinforcement and an MPV was sent to the scene.

“The MPV blocked the suspect’s car and a policeman alighted from the MPV and signaled to the suspect to stop for questioning.

“However, the suspect rammed the MPV, damaging its left door and sped away, leaving his teenage friend behind,” he told reporters here today.
