KUALA LUMPUR, Oct 23 — The haze shrouding the country is expected to end next month, with the arrival of monsoon winds from the northeast, blowing the polluted air southwards, away from Malaysia.
Malaysian Meteorological Department director-general Datuk Che Gayah Ismail said the northeast monsoon was expected to commence in the first or second week of November, and would end in the second week of March next year.
“Beginning November, we will experience the northeast monsoon winds. This means the wind from the South China Sea will not bring in the haze from Indonesia, and the country (Malaysia) will be free from the haze,” she said.
She was speaking to reporters after inspecting a cloud-seeding operation by the Ministry of Science, Technology and Innovation (MOSTI) at the Royal Malaysian Air Force Base in Subang here today.
On cloud-seeding operation, she said MOSTI had implemented 29 such operations to reduce the effects of the haze since March. — Bernama
