KUALA LUMPUR, Oct 23 — PKR questioned today how Putrajaya can revive the economy given that development expenditure only comprised a fifth of Budget 2016.

“This budget does not show the solution because we see the development budget is still too small compared to the Budget that was tabled, where the budget for management is still high, which is 80.5 per cent and development, 19.5 per cent,” PKR deputy president Azmin Ali told reporters at the Parliament lobby here.

“The question is how is the federal government going to revive the economy if the management expenditure is still big in the budget,” he said.

He added that there were no measures mentioned in the speech to solve leakages and corruption that affect the economy.

Azmin, who is also the Selangor Mentri Besar, pointed out that a lot of the rural projects announced were initiatives from the private sector and not funded by the federal government.

“Let’s not be misled because the majority of it are private sector’s initiatives and not the federal government’s, which has challenges in terms of funding today,” he said.
