KUALA LUMPUR, Oct 16 — A taxi driver who brought a kidnapped boy home to his house in Kajang just eight hours after his abduction, claimed today that his arrest had “brought shame” to his family.

News portal The Star Online reported that Hanizan Mohamed Radzi who was brought into the magistrate’s court in Kajang to be released after a week of custody, looked tired in his blue shirt and jeans as he was led out in handcuffs.

“My children are embarrassed for me. Please, please clear my name.

“I just drive a taxi. I didn’t do anything,” he was reported as saying.

On Sunday, police arrested four suspects, including Hanizan, who were believed to be responsible for the kidnapping of the five-year-old boy in Sungai Chua, Kajang last week.

Among the four was a 45-year-old printer who is believed to be the mastermind and is thought to be acquainted with the victim’s father via a business deal in the past.

On October 9, one of the two kidnappers had stopped the boy’s mother outside the kindergarten he attended in Sungai Chua, Kajang, on the pretext of asking for directions.

While she was speaking to the suspect and an accomplice, one of them grabbed the boy and bundled him into the car.

The mother managed to get into the kidnappers’ car but they later dumped her at the side of the road near a market in Sungai Chua.

Today, the news portal reported that Hanizan was released with a bond under Section 49 of the Criminal Procedure Code.

The three others detained over the incident will be charged at a Magistrate Court in Kajang today under Section 3(1) of the Kidnapping Act 1961 for abduction, wrongful restraint or wrongful confinement for ransom.

The case has been classified as kidnapping, which carries the death penalty.
